Actually, it kind of blew. Toaster ovens are not meant for baking full-sized..baking projects. The top of my bread is burnt, because it touches the coils.
And I was worried about it burning too much, so I pulled it out about a minute too early, and it still had a little doughy smell to it, which I don’t like. But J seems to like it just fine, he took some to work today as a sandwich.
Yay bread! I love making stuff from scratch. Food mainly, so far. But I know how to make hard soap, and liquid soap, and knitting stuff, and sewing. It just takes time. Oh, and I finally got my mom’s old sewing machine moved over here.
And by old, I mean, Olde. It’s treadle run, therefore…no electricity plug. Awesome, and heavy like you wouldn’t believe. Most of it is cast iron, the metal they use for heavy duty pots! In case you were wondering, or have been living in a cave and so have no experience with cookware. It belonged to my great-grandmother, and it still has some of her stick pins in the drawers. I do have to find some bobbins for it, because as of right now, I have one.
I’m excited, though. Majorly cool sewing projects are dancing in my head like sugar plums. Curtains, sheets, clothes, whole pieces of furniture… I don’t know how that last would work out, but maybe a futon?
I tell you what, I can not wait to move. I need a real grown-up oven bad, worse than I need a cigarette. I’ve only smoked since I was 16. I’ve been baking my whole life. And not just baking, but cooking meals and such, large pieces of meat that would actually feed us for more than one night, with vegetables in the same pot sometimes. I’ve been without an oven since January. We are going on five months here!! Not acceptable!
I can not do leg of lamb in a toaster oven! Or an entire batch of cookies! Or a nice loaf of bread, apparently! Please, an oven! My life, for an oven!
